3072/F64D ion exchange unit

Ion exchange unit with a manual control valve: water passes through a housing filled with ion-exchange resin, and the ions dissolved in it are replaced by an equivalent amount of ions released by the media. Depending on the resin, the unit softens water, reduces alkalinity, partially or fully desalinates it, removes nitrates or boron.

The difference from automatic designs is that the regeneration cycle is started and switched by the operator — the valve has neither a timer nor a water meter. This design is cheaper and does not depend on electric power, but requires that a person monitor the unit: a missed regeneration means hardness breakthrough into the filtrate. Manual designs are used where flow is stable and predictable, and maintenance follows a fixed schedule.
